Medicare Plans in Wisconsin and Minnesota

Whether you’re considering Medicare Advantage plans or Medicare supplement plans, it’s essential to understand the benefits and coverage each option offers. At Forward Insurance, we specialize in guiding you through the complexities of Medicare to find a plan that best fits your healthcare needs and budget.

4 Main Parts of Medicare Plans

  • Part A (Hospital Coverage): Covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care.
  • Part B (Medical Coverage): Helps pay for general medical expenses like x-rays, lab tests, preventative screenings, medically necessary supplies, and more.
  • Part C (Medicare Advantage): Combines Medicare Parts A and B benefits with extra services like vision, dental, hearing, and wellness programs, all in one plan.
  • Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage): Helps cover the cost of prescription medications, both generic and brand-name, through private insurance plans approved by Medicare.

Original Medicare versus Medicare Advantage

When you initially enroll in Medicare and at specific times throughout the year, you have the option to choose between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plan for your coverage.

Original Medicare Plan

Original Medicare includes Part A and Part B to cover essential healthcare services like hospital stays, doctor visits, and preventive care. While it offers flexibility to see any provider that accepts Medicare, it doesn’t cover everything, such as prescription drugs, dental, or vision, which may require additional plans.

  • Part A (Hospital Insurance): Covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care.
  • Part B (Medical Insurance): Covers outpatient care, doctor visits, preventive services, and medically necessary supplies.
  • Nationwide provider access: Visit any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare, without the need for network restrictions.
  • Cost-sharing: Requires beneficiaries to pay premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance.

If you choose Original Medicare, you’ll also decide if you want prescription drug coverage (Part D) and supplemental coverage, like Medicare Supplemental Plans (Medigap). These plans are designed to pay for out-of-pocket costs like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C)

Medicare Advantage Plans, also known as Part C, bundles your Part A, Part B, and usually Part D coverage into one plan. Plans may offer some extra benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover — like vision, hearing, and dental services.

  • Comprehensive coverage: Combines Medicare Parts A and B benefits with extra services like vision, dental, hearing, and wellness programs, all in one plan.
  • Prescription drug coverage: Some plans may include Medicare Part D to help cover the cost of your medications, eliminating the need for a separate drug plan.
  • Variety of plan types: Offers different plan types, such as Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and Special Needs Plans (SNP), giving you options based on your healthcare preferences and needs.
  • Additional benefits: Provides perks like fitness memberships, wellness programs, and routine healthcare services beyond what Original Medicare offers.
